Nobel Laureate John Mather and the beginning of the Univers at La Pedrera [NOT TRANSLATED]

James Webb Space Telescope at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics, offered a special Colloquium to a packed Auditorium at La Pedrera entitled “The History of the Universe from the beginning to the end: where did we come from, where can we go?”

The talk was addressed to a non-specialist audience and outlined the history of the universe from its early moments beginning from the Big Bang to its possible end. Prof. Mather engaged the attendees with illustrated examples from NASA, including measurements of the Big Bang, discoveries with the Hubble, and future telescopes like the James Webb Space Telescope (planned for 2018 launch) and beyond.

This Colloquium took place within the framework of the : Fundació Catalunya – La Pedrera · Ignacio Cirac Program Chair at ICFO and was organized in collaboration with the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB), the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE), the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE) and the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC).
