On June 18th and 19th the Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona hosts the tenth edition of the Festa de la Ciència of Barcelona with the aim of bringing the scientific research conducted in Catalonia to all audiences. During these two days the Festa offers more than one hundred activities spread over different areas of the park. From robotics workshops, get an idea of the data universe in which we live and conduct scientific experiments to hear lectures of various topics.

Microtalks

The Festa de la Ciència offers twenty microtalks on pointers topics, relevant to society or who have had a remarkable evolution in the last 10 years. And it is in this space where space research and researchers of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia will have a special role with several talks.

The researcher of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (IEEC-UB) Merce Romero will discuss the latest developments of the GAIA mission that will create a map of a billion stars of the Milky Way and study its origin and evolution. Nanda Rea, from the Institute of Space Sciences (IEEC-CSIC) will talk on the explosions in the Universe as magnetars and supernovae and will explain how scientists detect these events and study their effect on the cosmos. Finally, the researcher at the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (IEEC-UB) Jordi Miralda will expose the great milestone that has meant the direct detection of gravitational waves predicted by Albert Einstein hundred years ago and how it will change astronomy.
