Each month the Observatori Astronòmic del Montsec (OAdM) of IEEC publishes an outstanding image from the observations made there. In August, the protagonist of the image of the month is the Dummbell nebula.

Known as M27 or the Dumbbell Nebula, this planetary nebula with a curious form of hourglass shows us what will happen to the Sun when nuclear fusion stops in its core. In the image, we can see light of different colors emitted primarily by hydrogen and oxygen, which takes about 1,000 years to travel from the M27 to us. Even today, many issues of these planetary nebulas remain a mystery, such as the mechanism by which low-mass stars expel their envelope and give rise to a white dwarf.
The image was taken with the Hubble Joan Oró at the Montsec Astronomical Observatory, using different broadband filters and a total time of 4 hours of exposure. [NOT TRANSLATED]
