The Universitat de Barcelona organises the 1st Session of the UB Institutes focused on the space theme
On 22 June, the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) will host the "1st Session of the UB institutes: The exploration (and exploitation) of space".

The objective of the meeting, which can be followed live on UBtv from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., is to address the issue of space from a multidisciplinary perspective based on the research carried out by various research institutes of the UB. The Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the Universitat de Barcelona (ICCUB), distinguished with the María de Maeztu accreditation and which constitutes one of the four scientific units of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya), is one of them.

The event will start with a round table on the NewSpace Strategy for Catalonia, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Daniel Marco, general director of Innovation and Digital Economy of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Jordi Corbera, manager of the PCOT program of the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya, Mònica Roca, president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; and Ignasi Ribas, director of IEEC, will participate in the debate. Xavier Luri, director of ICCUB, will moderate the table.

In the second part of the conference, researchers from various UB research institutes will talk about the exploration and exploitation of space, as well as the science that derives from it, in a series of short presentations. These presentations will deal with both scientific and more technological topics. From the space weather using the study of the heliosphere, astrochemistry, the role of methane as a biomarker or the effect of space on the brain, to communications in space, remote sensing technologies and nanometric techniques applied to the study of meteorites, will be approached from a transversal perspective that will provide an updated view of the matter.

The economic impact of space exploration and its historical view from a social and humanistic perspective will be also discussed in the event.
