The IEEC has published the tender for the new Earth Observation mission of the Catalonia’s NewSpace Strategy, which will also include an in-orbit technology demonstrator (IOD)

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) has announced the tender for the provision of satellite data services related to Earth Observation for Catalonia’s NewSpace Strategy next Earth Observation focused mission. This mission will include the integration and operation of an in-orbit technology demonstrator (IOD).

The contract, with an estimated value of 4,215,000 €, aims to provide satellite services based on the needs identified within the framework of Catalonia’s NewSpace Strategy promoted by the Generalitat’s Secretariat for Digital Policies with the collaboration of the IEEC, the i2CAT Foundation and the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC).

This provision of services should serve to provide data, experimentation, and experience to a Catalan ecosystem made up of industry, research centres and the bodies and departments of the Generalitat de Catalunya. 

The provision of the identified services should be carried out through the disposition of at least three satellites and will include:

  • The conception, integration, and management of the entire life cycle of a satellite mission (GENEO-02).
  • The Catalan territory data acquisition and its delivery, including the case of emergency.
  • The design, integration, operation, and use of a secondary Internet of Things (IoT) payload.
  • The integration and operation of a payload as a technology demonstrator (IOD).
  • Engineering support in data processing from native instrument format (RAW) to L2A.

The deadline for receipt of bids or requests to participate is Friday 15 September 2023 at 2.00 p.m*.
