The IEEC Forum 2021, on its 25th anniversary
The event, which gathered more than 80 attendees, was opened by a welcome speech held by Dr. Ignasi Ribas, Director of IEEC, who also gave a general presentation about the Institute. The afternoon continued with a presentation about IEEC’s emerging leading role in the NewSpace environment in Catalonia, focusing on the NewSpace activities currently overseen by IEEC, the Satellite Ground Station at Montsec and the future of NewSpace.

Nüwa — a sustainable city design for a Mars colony — and the CCCB exhibition “Mars. The Red Mirror” were also presented to the audience.
The event continued with presentations about scientific missions in which IEEC had a key role during the last year, related to Signal Processing for Communications and Navigation, the eXTP mission & PODIUM project, the FSSCAT mission, GNSS reflectometry and HydroGNSS mission, the latest scientific results from the Solar Orbiter mission, as well as the ones from the Gaia mission.
The event concluded with the presentation of a video created on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of IEEC which briefly reviews the history of the Institute, as well as the most important milestones since its establishment, through the voices of differents representative figures from IEEC: Jordi Isern, founding director (1996 – 2015); Francesca Figueras, executive director during the management of Jordi Torra (2015 – 2017), Ignasi Ribas, current director (2017 – present); and Pilar Montes, manager (1997 – present).
