The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (MWC) is the world’s leading technology and digital innovation trade fair. Between March 3 and 6, businesses, institutions, and professionals from various sectors gathered to showcase the latest technological advancements, exchange knowledge, and explore new collaboration opportunities in an increasingly digitalized environment. Once again, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) participated to highlight the strategic value of space technologies in innovation and economic development.

Data from space is becoming increasingly relevant in areas such as natural resource management, infrastructure optimization, and risk forecasting, offering practical and impactful solutions. For this reason, the IEEC continues to work towards bringing these capabilities closer to society and promoting their adoption by companies and administrations.

The growing impact of space data and services was evident at the MWC, where, as Pep Colomé, Director of the Catalan Space Sector Promotion Area (APEC) within the IEEC, highlighted: “It has been very useful for us to interact with businesses and the public sector, which often see the space sector as something distant, but increasingly recognize its value and the practical applications it can offer for their needs and requirements. The space sector provides significant added value in many areas, and events like the MWC help make it visible.” In this context, Catalonia continues to strengthen its commitment to the space sector through innovative projects, with the IEEC playing a key role, bringing these technologies to serve society and the productive fabric.

The growing presence of the space sector at the MWC confirmed how these technologies are gaining prominence across multiple economic and industrial sectors. The ability to generate precise data and advanced services from space opens up new opportunities for businesses and institutions, accelerating innovation and digitalization. In this framework, Catalonia is consolidating its leadership in the sector with initiatives such as the NewSpace Strategy, launched by the Government in collaboration with the IEEC, i2Cat, and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), working to foster innovation and accelerate the adoption of these solutions across different sectors.

Talent Arena: Fostering the Connection Between Digital Talent and the Technology Sector

Alongside the MWC, the Talent Arena also took place, an event dedicated to fostering the connection between digital talent and technology companies. In this framework, the IEEC participated in the roundtable “Space Technology: Reality or Science Fiction?” moderated by Dani Sors, Head of the Services and Industrial Promotion Office at APEC. This session highlighted how space and the digital sector share numerous synergies, with companies developing products and services with a strong technological component and applications in various fields.

Through its presence at the MWC, the IEEC continues to work towards bringing space closer to society and promoting the development of this sector as a strategic pillar for innovation and economic growth in Catalonia.
