From September 30 to October 10, 2024, the Association and College of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia organises the course “The new economy of space: Multisector applications of data from telecommunications, navigation and Earth observation satellites.” The main objective of the initiative is to familiarize participants with the numerous applications of satellites and capture the opportunities they open in sectors as diverse as mobility and logistics, infrastructure, tourism, insurance, the environment, the management of agricultural, livestock, forestry and water resources, the management of urban areas, coasts, and fires, and the management of extreme weather events, among others.
The NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, through its collaborating entities, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya), the i2CAT Foundation and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), and its promoting entity, the Government of Catalonia, collaborate in this course within the framework of the Talent and Society axis.
The presentation of the course will take place at the headquarters of the Industrial Engineers (Via Laietana, 39, Barcelona) on 25 June. During the event, a round table will be held with the aim of raising awareness about the opportunities opened by the new space economy, as well as the resources available in our ecosystem to accompany new business, academic and training initiatives.
