The Catalan Minister of Research and Universities, Joaquim Nadal i Farreras, visited the new facilities of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) in the Mediterranean Technology Park (PMT) of Castelldefels and held a meeting with the centre’s management, headed by its director Ignasi Ribas.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the director of the Area for the Promotion of the Space Sector of Catalonia (APEC), Josep Colomé; the director of the Observatori del Montsec (OdM) managed by the IEEC, Kike Herrero; the CERCA director, Laia Pellejà and the head of the IEEC Communication Office, Ana Montaner, among others, the minister received detailed information on the latest research and the most relevant projects involving the institute.
The visit also served as an official presentation of the new IEEC headquarters in the Baix Llobregat Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Castelldefels, after having remained based at the Campus Nord of the UPC in Barcelona almost since its inception in 1996.
During his tour through the facilities, the minister vindicated the space research carried out by the institute, “a fundamental scientific task that contributes to a better understanding of the universe and which is also important as a driving force for the aerospace sector and cutting-edge technological development in our home, along with other key fields such as AI, cybersecurity or quantum technologies”.
