Satellite data is a key tool in sectors such as agriculture, as it provides accurate information to optimise processes and make decisions. The technical session ‘What can satellites do for vineyard management? Available technologies and success stories‘ will present the results of two projects that show how space technologies can help transform the management of this crop.

The projects have been developed by the companies isardSAT and Spascat in the first ‘Earth observation use case ideas competition for the private sector’, coordinated by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) in collaboration with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC). The initiative is framed within the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, promoted by the Government of Catalonia.

The MARE project, developed by isardSAT, has managed to generate a drought index at the plot scale. On the other hand, Spascat has developed the MOT project, which has demonstrated how satellite data can be used to identify points of interest for inspections in vineyard fields more efficiently.

This event, organised by the IEEC and the Catalan Wine Cluster INNOVI, is part of the Annual Technology Transfer Plan (PATT) 2024 of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Catalonia.

The event will take place on 20 November in the auditorium of the Àgora Centre, in Plaça Àgora in Vilafranca del Penedès, between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Organised by:

  • IEEC
  • Clúster Vitivinícola Català INNOVI

Collaborators: isardSAT, Spascat, Aigües Segarra-Garrigues, Consell Regulador de la Denominació d’Origen Terra Alta, Agropixel, Raimat, Observatori de l’Ebre, IRTA, Raventós Codorniu, ADV La Granada – CEVIPE, ICGC.

Goals:
