Jocelyn Bell at CosmoCaixa, within the third conference dedicated to the Athena X-ray Observatory
The Scientific Organising Committee is led by Nanda Rea, researcher of the Institute of Space Science (ICE-CSIC) and member of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC). Other IEEC-ICE researchers, as well as members of the Athena Science Study Team (ASST) and the Athena Community Office (ACO), are part of the Local Organising Committee.
Within the conference, a Public Lecture of Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell on the discovery of pulsars will be held on Tuesday, 8 November (at 7 p.m.). During her talk, Dr Bell will tell us the story behind what is one of the most relevant discoveries in Physics.
Neutron stars (also called pulsars) emit periodic radiation at short, regular intervals. The discovery won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1974; nevertheless, she was not one of the awarded with the prize.
