IEEC was established in February 1996 as a private, non–profit foundation to foster space R&D in Catalonia, governed by a Board of Trustees composed of the Generalitat de Catalunya and four other institutions, each of which has a research unit. These units constitute the core of IEEC R&D activity: the University of Barcelona (UB) with the research unit ICCUB — Institute of Cosmos Sciences; the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with the research unit CERES — Center of Space Studies and Research; the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) with the research unit CTE — Research Group in Space Sciences and Technologies; the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) with the research unit ICE — Institute of Space Sciences.
IEEC ranks among the best international research centers, producing a large number of high-impact publications and leading key world-class projects. This is the result of twenty five years of top-quality research work in collaboration with the most reputed international institutions. The Institute also develops instrumentation for multiple space missions thanks to a team of engineers with extensive experience in the aerospace sector and in sectors with a high value in innovation.
All throughout 2021, IEEC will offer a programme full of events and activities that, adapting to the current socio-sanitary context, will be carried out mainly in virtual format. Stay tuned!
