Last week, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) participated for the third time in a row in the most important event within the space sector globally: the International Astronautical Congress 2023 (IAC 2023), organized by the International Astronautical Federation and held in the city of Baku (Azerbaijan) between 2 and 6 October.
The five days of the congress were extremely intense and served, among other things, to present to the several actors in the space sector and the new space economy that gathered there the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia promoted by the Catalan Government in collaboration with the IEEC, the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC) and the i2Cat Foundation.
With this goal, IEEC delegates held contacts with relevant initiatives and institutions within the sector such as the ESA’s Clean Space Initiative (ESA – Clean Space), the International Space University (ISU), the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation from Poland or the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX).
There was time for meetings with various international space agencies, such as the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), the Agencia Espacial Brasilera (AEB), the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) or the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and the IEEC delegation also met with established and emerging companies, such as Orbit Fab, Telespazio Germany, Astroscale, AIRMO, ispace, T4i, PLD Space, SAB Aerospace or Euroconsult.
The event, which will celebrate its 75th edition between 14 and 18 October 2024 in Milan, hosted also IAC’s General Assembly, in which IEEC is a member with voting rights.
