Call for participation in the NewSpace Catalonia stands at the International Astronautical Congress 2023 (Baku) and the Space Tech Expo Europe (Bremen)
Are you an innovative company or a research and innovation centre in the field of space?

If you answer yes to the above question, your company or centre may be selected to exhibit at the NewSpace Catalonia stand that the Government of Catalonia, with the support of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya), will present at both the International Astronautical Congress 2023 (IAC23, Bakú, 2-6 October), and the Space Tech Expo Europe (Bremen, 14-16 November). These events bring together all types of organisations at international level and are the major benchmarks in the space sector.

The IAC is the most important space event in the world. Every year, all the players in the space industry come together to offer everyone the opportunity to discover the latest innovations in the space sector, as well as outstanding contacts and potential collaborations. With the theme 'Global Challenges and Opportunities: Give Space a Chance', IAC23 aims to bring together all space communities with the ecosystem of companies and start-ups, entrepreneurs, laboratories, scientific researchers and manufacturers that could participate in or benefit from activities. Special attention will be given to students and young professionals, who will have dedicated events. And for the general public there will be space-themed conferences and exhibitions.

The Space Tech Expo Europe 2023 is the sixth edition of Europe's largest and most important trade fair for space technology and services. At this exhibition, you can see the latest space technologies, as well as enjoy opportunities to network, interact and discuss topical issues in the space sector. It is a key B2B event that attracts thousands of industry leaders, including manufacturers, service providers, research organisations and government agencies. For space companies, this exhibition is a unique opportunity to connect with other industry professionals, discover the latest innovations and trends, and establish new collaborations. It is also an opportunity for companies to showcase their own products and services to a wide and specialised audience.

This year, the Government of Catalonia, with the support of the IEEC's Area for the Promotion of the Space Sector of Catalonia (APEC), will have a stand at both events, with a relevant location to facilitate contacts with other leading players in the global space sector. In the case of Space Tech Expo, the stand will be shared with between 6 and 10 companies, which will have a dedicated space within the stand of the Generalitat. In the case of the IAC in Paris, the stand space will be dedicated to the New Space Strategy, with the option of dedicated spaces for a maximum of 5 companies. The companies will be able to use the Strategy stands for meetings and/or any other activities that they consider relevant and agreed. They will be spaces where visitors, companies and entities present at the congress will be able to publicise their activities and establish contacts and promote collaborations with a global scope.

The NewSpace Catalonia stands are an initiative within the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, promoted by the Department of Business and Labour, in collaboration with the IEEC, the i2CAT Foundation, the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. This collaboration seeks to project the industrial, innovation and talent generation capabilities of the Catalan ecosystem to the world. The stands will show the potential for interaction of the space and digital sectors, both strategic for the emergence of the new space economy, and the different institutions present, the strengths of the NewSpace strategy of Catalonia and the sectors involved in this ecosystem.

The companies and organisations that stay in each of the stands will enjoy the different dissemination and internationalisation activities that will be carried out, as well as the accompaniment and support during IAC23 and Space Tech Expo 2023 by the members promoting the strategy. If you are one of the chosen entities, you will have maximum visibility at the stands.

The deadline for submission of applications is Thursday 15 June 2023.

What participation with space includes

  • Reserved area at the Government of Catalonia's New Space stands.
  • Promotion through different communication channels (web, press, etc.).
  • 2 tickets to the congress 'Exhibition booth staff badges' (in the case of the IAC).
  • Inclusion in the official online catalogue of companies at lAC23 and Space Tech Expo.
  • Participation in the different events organised by the Government of Catalonia in the framework of the IAC23 and Space Tech Expo.

The cost of each space is 500 € for a surface area of between 7 and 9 m2 with extra space for meetings. The company has to assume all costs associated with travel, transport and installation of specific content in its space.

Mandatory requirements

To participate in the selection process you must:

  • Send an email with your contact details to info-apec@ieec.cat before 15 June 2023 (23:59h), indicating "IAC23" and/or "Space Tech Expo 2023" in the subject line.
  • Documentation to be attached to the email:
    • Brief description in English and Catalan (maximum 100 words). This will be the description that will be used for the event catalogues, as well as in the dissemination and communication actions considered appropriate by the entities promoting the NewSpace strategy of Catalonia. Your consent is considered implicit. It is important that the text is UNDERSTANDABLE and DESCRIPTIVE.
    • Attach a PowerPoint file with a corporate presentation of the company in English. Maximum 15 slides.
    • Attach a file with the logo that you want to appear in the catalogue (in "tracing" or high resolution format: Freehand, Illustrator, etc.). This will be the logo that will be used on your company's signage at the stand of the Government of Catalonia.
    • The Powerpoint and the logo will have to be sent through a file transfer website, e.g. Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.
    • Before 23 June 2023 you will receive confirmation of whether you have been selected.

Selection criteria

Being a Catalan company or research and innovation centre working in the business segment of the space field. The selection committee will take into account:

  • The level of innovation and originality of the products, services or applications of your company or centre.
  • The possibilities of internationalisation.
  • The degree of maturity or market implementation of your products, services or applications.
