Call for grants for internships in companies and research centres in NewSpace projects

Jul 25, 2024

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) and the Government of Catalonia have opened a call for grants to companies, start-ups and research centres in Catalonia for the selection of students on internships in the NewSpace field.

This call is framed within the actions of the Talent and Society program of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, which promotes activities aimed at attracting, generating and retaining all that talent with the capabilities to develop solutions in the NewSpace field.

One of the objectives of the program is to promote internships in companies, start-ups and research centres in the NewSpace field, as a key element for the connection between universities and companies. Furthermore, the aim is to favour small companies and research centres in Catalonia that have difficulties hiring interns with their resources.

The call consists of two modalities:

  • Modality 1: 14 Grants for carrying out internships in companies and research centres with partial financing.
The purpose of this grant is to promote the space ecosystem in the territory of Catalonia and encourage small/medium companies, startups and research centres based in Catalonia to finance internships for university students in this field.
In this case, the amount of the NewSpace Internship grant will be a maximum of 2,000 euros each. This amount partially finances the aid paid to the student during the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Modality 2: 10 Grants for carrying out internships in companies and research centres, without financing.
The purpose of this grant is to promote the space ecosystem in the territory of Catalonia and enable companies and research centres based in Catalonia to establish collaborations with new university faculties to find university students interested in carrying out internships.

Companies, start-ups and research centres that meet the requirements established in the third clause of the call for proposals are eligible for these grants.

Applicant entities can only apply in one of the two modalities. In case of submission of applications in both modalities, the applications submitted will not be admitted.

Companies, start-ups and research centres interested in participating can send their application until 27 September.
