IEEC and WiA Europe – Barcelona organize a round table about the role of women in science

The Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC — Institut d’Estudis Espacials de Catalunya) and the Barcelona representation of Women in Aerospace Europe (WiA Europe) organize a virtual round table today, 6 May 2021, at 6:00 p.m.. Under the title "Space from home: get to know IEEC through its women researchers", the activity will involve exclusively IEEC women scientists, with the aim to explain what IEEC is and which research is being carried out, from an inclusive perspective and giving voice to the Institute's female researchers.

During the round table, the discussion will focus on the role of women in science from a generational point of view. With this intention, four women researchers have been selected, each of them belonging to a different IEEC research unit and, at the same time, on various stages of the academic career. The participants are Francesca Figueras, professor at the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and researcher at the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the Universitat de Barcelona (ICCUB); Mercè Vall-llossera, tenured professor at the Research Group in Space Sciences and Technologies (CTE-CRAE) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); Mar Mezcua, researcher and senior scientist at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE) of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC); and Camilla Maggio, who recently defended her PhD at the Center for Space Studies and Research (CERES) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

The event is part of the #Space4Change series of talks being carried out by WiA. With this series, WiA aims to give visibility to projects, entities, companies and people that help to make a better world through aerospace technology. The activity is also part of the events organized by IEEC on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
