Vacuum2015: “The vacuum of the Universe: from cosmology to particle physics” [NOT TRANSLATED]
This simple fact, also known as the cosmological constant problem, is one of the biggest unsolved puzzles in theoretical physics and its resolution will presumably deeply change our description of Nature.
Additionally, the (electroweak) vacuum of the standard model of particle physics is also puzzling: current datas seems to favour a quantum mechanically unstable (electroweak) vacuum. Thus, if is no any new physics exist, our Universe is probably damned to eventually decay.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists from different scientific backgrounds to discuss and exchange ideas about fundamental questions related to what the Universe's vacuum is, what are its gravitational and particle physics properties and how do they interlock, if they do. The workshop is by invitation only. There will be only few invited speakers covering different ideas or experiments related to the question of what the vacuum of the Universe could be. These talks are aimed to catalyse discussions, for this reason there will be plenty of time between them. In addition, there will be many free white board talks slots.
These talks are for the participants of the workshop to be able to propose and/or discuss novel ideas not covered by the invited talks. These additional talks will not be announced beforehand as they are considered as integral parts of the scientific discussions. The confirmed speakers are: Rahman Amanullah (Oskar Klein Centre, Stockholm) Carlos Barceló (Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics, Granada) Jose Espinosa (IFAE, Barcelona) Cesar Gómez (IFT, Madrid) Aurelio Juste Rozas (IFAE, Barcelona) Michele Maggiore (University of Geneve) Christophe Rahmede (ITP, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) Filippo Vernizzi (CEA, IPhT, Saclay) The 20th October there will be a free welcoming evening aperitif at 18:00 and the 23rd a conference dinner at the price of 32 Euros per person in "El Asador de Aranda". Deadline for registration: 15 September 2015.
